Brian Balfour
NextView Ventures, Kepha Partners, SV Angel and Founder Collective)
Stacy Spikes & Hamet Watts
13. Joor:
Mona Bijoor
資金:2,25萬美元(來自Battery Ventures、Lerer Ventures、Great Oaks VC、Landis Capital、Forerunner Ventures、William M. Smith、以及Richard Mishaan)
14. Kickstarter:
Charles Adler
15. Singly:
Jason Cavnar
16. Dropbox:
Drew Houston & Arash Ferdowsi

Bre Pettis

18. Roundtable:
Cemre Gungor
19. Greplin:
Daniel Gross & Robby Walker
20. Instagram:
Kevin Systrom & Mike Krieger
————–Business Inside : The 20 Most Innovative Startups In Tech—————
11.Company: Boundless Learning (Boundless Learning takes the Internet and turns it into free textbooks)
Founders: Aaron White, Ariel Diaz, and Brian Balfour
Location: Boston, MA
Funding: $1.7 million from NextView Ventures, Kepha Partners, SV Angel and Founder Collective
Why it’s innovative: Boundless Learning is attempting to create free textbooks from free web content; crowdsourced books could be a huge opportunity.
It enables students to bypass expensive and boring textbooks by providing a free and interactive replacement that works regardless of the text they have been assigned in class.
12. Company: MoviePass(MoviePass is an all you can eat movie ticket solution. Pay $30 and see as many as you want per month in theaters.)
Founders: Stacy Spikes and Hamet Watts
Location: New York, NY
Funding: Raising a round now and is backed by AOL Ventures, True Ventures, Lambert Media, Moxie Pictures, Brian Lee, Diego Berdakin, MJ Eng, Ryan Steelberg and Adam Lilling.
Why it’s innovative: MoviePass lets users attend all of the movies they want in theaters for a fixed price. It’s great for theaters, which have been having trouble getting people in seats. It also collects data on movie goers.
If MoviePass takes off, it could cast aside sites like Fandango and become an entirely new way for movie buffs to purchase tickets.
13. Company: Joor (Joor makes it easy for boutiques to buy wholesale from designers.)
Founders: Mona Bijoor
Location: New York, NY
Funding: $2.25 million from Battery Ventures, Lerer Ventures, Great Oaks VC, Landis Capital, Forerunner Ventures, William M. Smith and Richard Mishaan.
Why it’s innovative: Before Joor, if a boutique wanted to carry designer brands, it was a painful and tedius process. It had to call each company and play phone tag before eventually placing an order.
Joor makes wholesale buying much easier. It works with hundreds of brands and thousands of boutiques and allows botiques to place bulk orders with multiple brands at once on its platform. The botiques also have profile pages, so designers can see where their products will be sold.
Right now Joor only works with fashion labels, but it has plans to move into other categories, like home decor. It’s a great way for small mom and pop shops to carry big name brands.
14. Company: Kickstarter (Kickstarter is a way to raise money from the community)
Founders: Perry Chen, Yancey Strickler, and Charles Adler
Location: New York, NY
Funding: $10 million from Betaworks, Union Square Ventures and others
Why it’s innovative: Kickstarter invented a whole new way to fund a company. There once was friends and family rounds and venture capital. Now there’s crowdsourcing.
15. Company: Singly (Singly collects your data from all over the Internet and lets you organize it)
Founders: Jeremie Miller, Simon Murtha-Smith, Jason Cavnar
Location: San Francisco, CA
Funding: ~ $2 million
Why it’s innovative: We’re entering the era of “small data.” As people put more and more information about themselves online, all of the information gets scattered and lost. If you want to find your first-ever tweet, for example, you can’t.
Singly helps users keep track of their data and organize it. It’s currently open for developers and a version for the general public will be launching shortly.
16. Company: Dropbox (Dropbox is a file storage and sharing solution)
Founders: Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi
Location: San Francisco, CA
Funding: $257.2 million
Why it’s innovative: You might not believe that files will exist in the future, but there’s no denying that Dropbox is innovative.
It created a way to easily share and store files all over the web and it’s now worth $4 billion.
17. Company: Makerbot (Makerbot prints things in 3D)
Founders: Bre Pettis
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Funding: Raised $10 million in August from Foundry Group, RRE, True Ventures, Jeff Bezos’ Bezos Expeditions, and some angels
Why it’s innovative: Printing 3D images, including Stephen Colbert’s head, is both original and awesome.
18. Company: Roundtable (Roundtable is a group blogging platform. Follow conversations led by people who interest you)
Founder: Josh Miller. Hursh Agrawal and Cemre Gungor
Location: New York, New York
Funding: N/A
Why it’s innovative: Roundtable is a group blogging/debate platform. Miller thinks blog posts are too one-sided; they leave the conversation hanging. Bloggers refer to other articles and authors in their posts, but Miller thinks it’d be better if everyone got together and talked in one place.
Roundtable gathers five or six thought leaders and has them debate a topic in one flowing conversation. Others can follow the stream. There have only been a few discussions held on Roundtable so far, but it’s gone fairly viral. Three discussions alone generated 10,000 uniques on Miller’s site.
19. Company: Greplin (Greplin is a search bar for you and your social network)
Founder: Daniel Gross and Robby Walker
Location: San Francisco, CA
Funding: ~ $5 million
Why it’s innovative: Greplin first launched as a Google killer and has morphed into another form of search entirely.
Greplin is a search bar that’s dedicated entirely to you and your social network. It connects to all of your email accounts and social profiles and lets you pull up any conversation you’ve had there. It’s the epitome of personalized search.
20.Company: Instagram (Instagram nailed photo sharing and is growing like crazy)
Founders: Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger
Location: San Francisco, CA
Funding: Raised $7 million in February, about $8 million to date.
Why it’s innovative: The photos-sharing app has created a Twitter-like stream for images; it’s catching on like wildfire.
Instagram reached 10 million downloads in half the time of Foursquare, which has a much larger staff and a lot more venture capital.
